Graduate Visa News

(subclass 485)

Overview

As of March 21st, Minister for Visa Home, Claire O’Neil, unveiled a series of modifications to Graduate Visa prerequisites, aligning with the Australian Government’s ‘Migration Strategy’ released on December 11th of the previous year.

These alterations came into effect on March 23, 2024, aiming to intensify competition among graduates and admit only the most proficient ones for temporary residency in Australia.

These announcements closely follow recent reports of halving the student visa intake to address challenges related to high inflation and a rental crisis.

For applicants submitting urgent applications on or after March 23rd, it is crucial to retake an English language test or explore alternative visa options.

There have been adjustments to the initial duration of the 485 visa.

Effective March 23, 2024, the duration of the initial 485 visa will be adjusted according to the level of your qualification:

  • Bachelor Degree and Masters by Coursework: The visa will be valid for 2 years.
